Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn went on the road for the first time in War Eagle Conference play and was unable to pick up a victory. South O’Brien swept the Hawks 3-0 September 5 at Paullina by scores of 25-20, 25-19 and 25-17. That dropped HMS to 0-2 in the conference and 1-4 overall.
The Hawks serving slipped a bit from their previous outing as they barely served at 80 percent against the Wolverines and had just two aces. In contrast, South O’Brien served up 14 aces on nearly 88 percent serving.
Leading the kills numbers for HMS were Kylee Schiphoff with seven, Moriah Otto with six and Abby Douma with five. Frankie Mohni finished with 19 kill assists. Schiphoff recorded a solo block and three assists while Douma had a solo and two assists.
Coming up with double-digit digs were Mohni with 16, Lindsey Van Es with 12 and Addy Sheeler with 10. Otto went 9-of-9 serving including an ace. Schiphoff was 7-of-8 and Van Es 10-of-12 with an ace.
