Okoboji/HMS boys get a split in season-opening triangular
The Okoboji/HMS boys got the wrestling season underway December 5 with a triangular at Graettinger. The Pioneers defeated Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire 52-27 but lost to Spencer 39-32.
HMS grappler James Gellerman won twice at 165 pounds. He began by pinning Owen DeMoss of the host Titans in 1:47. The match against Spencer’s Cohen Roth was a struggle but Gellerman came back from injury time to score a key takedown in a 15-8 victory by decision.
Two other HMS wrestlers spent little time on the mat but figured in the scoring. Dallas Greer won by forfeit at 113 pounds in each of the duals. At 215 pounds Riley Mattingly was pinned by GTRA’s Wyatt Haffner in 48 seconds and lost by fall to Tallen Lorenzen of Spencer in 15 seconds.
Mykle Meyers from HMS wrestled a pair of JV matches, winning both. The 175-pounder claimed a 13-7 decision over Aaron Wilson of GTRA and later decisioned Spencer’s Garrett Hurst 8-7.
