Okoboji/HMS girls wrestlers fare well in two events

The Okoboji/HMS girls wrestling team found success last week both at home and on the road.
In a triangular at Graettinger December 5, the Pioneers won twice, downing the host Titans 52-24 and Spencer 42-39. Two HMS wrestlers were in the lineup. At 120 pounds Miley Appeldorn pinned Bonita Jordan of GTRA in 3:10 but then lost by fall in 2:44 to the Tigers’ Summer Fliss. Natalie Dagel received a win by forfeit at 190 pounds in each of the duals.
On December 7 the Pioneers hosted the Okoboji/HMS Girls Invitational at Milford. The home team scored 166.5 points and finished a close second to Spencer’s 172.5.
At 190 pounds Dagel lost by fall to Jade Dubbelde in 3:57 and to Tayla Schiltz in :37. Both wrestlers are from Harrisburg, SD. Appeldorn again wrestled at 120 pounds. She lost her quarterfinal match by fall to April Banda of Sioux Central in 1:36. GTRA’s Jordan pinned Appeldorn in the consolations in 1:01 but the HMS grappler came back to win by fall over Kailee Schneider of Brandon Valley, SD in just 17 seconds. In the 7th Place Match it was Crystal Westall of Harrisburg winning by fall over Appeldorn in 1:46.
