Okoboji/HMS boys get split at Orange City triangular

The Okoboji/HMS boys wrestling team moved its duals record to 12-5 with a loss and a win at a triangular January 23 at Orange City. The Pioneers’ first dual of the night was a 41-33 loss to Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley. Okoboji/HMS rallied to beat the host Dutchmen 48-18.
HMS varsity wrestlers in the triangular were Dallas Greer, Nathan Stofferan, Emilio Martinez and Riley Mattingly.
Greer lost by fall to the Nighthawks’ Cole Bomgaars in 42 seconds at 120 pounds and then received a win by forfeit at 113 in the dual with MOC-FV. Stofferan was pinned by BH/RV’s Samuel Quevedo in 4:43 in a 113-pound match. Wrestling at 120 in the dual with the Dutchmen, Stofferan lost a 4-0 decision to Deiby Felipe.
Martinez and Mattingly wrestled only in the MOC-FV dual. Martinez won by fall over Brayden Oolman at 144 pounds. Mattingly battled German Topete to a fourth period before the MOC-FV 215-pounder won 11-8 in sudden victory – 1.
Several HMS grapplers were on the mat for JV matches. Mykle Meyers won by technical fall (21-5) in 3:05 in a match with Elijah Brown of MOC-FV. Versus Nighthawk wrestlers Austin Greer was pinned by Mateo Narro in 2:56, Taylor Dykstra lost by technical fall (15-0) to Diego Pablo in 5:54 and Easton Teal was a victim by technical fall (17-0) of Juan Tomas in 4:09.
