Akron-Westfield overcame a three-point halftime deficit to defeat Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn 57-49 in a War Eagle Conference contest played January 24 at Akron. The Westerners shot 21 free throws to just four for HMS.
The Hawks outshot Akron-Westfield 47 percent to 41 percent. Caden Douma scored 20 points, Isaac Schierholz 13, Alex Billings six, Jackson Vogt four and Kolby Douma and Jayden Leth three each. Schierholz notched five rebounds, four steals and two blocks. Caden Douma had four rebounds and four steals. Each team finished with 13 turnovers.
