HMS posts season-best score but Falcons get the win

Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn shot its low team score of the season but it wasn’t quite enough as West Sioux captured the War Eagle Conference boys golf dual May 1 at Sanborn Golf and Country Club. HMS carded a team score of 178 but the Falcons went lower with a 173 to get the win.
West Sioux collected the top two medals. Jack Mastbergen was third with a round of 43. Blake Meendering, Aiden Bush and Lawton Schiphoff were three of the four golfers who each shot 45. Kolby Douma carded a 51 and Eli Mastbergen a 54. On the JV side, McCoy Smith fired a 47, Slayton McCarter a 51 and Grant Kunzman a 56.
“We are playing much better golf!” emphasized HMS coach Mark Japenga. “The kids are making great decisions and have lowered their team score 34 strokes since the beginning of the year. Jack has been shooting well the last two meets as well as Blake and Aiden leading the way as seniors. We continue to improve and will hopefully peak at the right time.”
