The Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn boys track and field team attempted to round themselves into form just prior to the State Qualifying Meet by taking part in the Sioux Central Invite held May 12 at Sioux Rapids. The Hawks scored 81 points to finish fifth in the Invite which was won by the host Rebels and their 164 total.
The top place finisher for HMS was Caden Douma who was the runner-up in the high jump. Placing third were Nathan Stofferan in the 100 meters, Ryan Grotluschen in the 400 meters and Easton Teal in the 1600 meters.
Joining three relays in finishing fourth was Blaine Finster in the 400 meter hurdles. The relays were the 4×100 of Caleb Grotluschen, Graham Lux, Isaac Schierholz and Stofferan and the 4×200 with Douma, joining Lux, Schierholz and Stofferan.
