Runs eventually come for Tigers against HMS


Trinity Christian was held scoreless for two innings then was productive for the next three to come away with an 11-1 five-inning win over Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn June 4 at Hartley. The Tigers tallied four runs in the third inning, two in the fourth and five in the fifth to improve to 3-2 on the season.
HMS notched its only run in the fourth inning. Grant Kunzman picked up the RBI, scoring James Carlin who was on base four times. Carlin was twice hit by a pitch and twice he reached on an error.
Blake Meendering accounted for two of the Hawks’ five hits. Hunter Daggett hit a double. Caden Douma and Brody Meendering had the other two hits. Carlin was successful on both of his steal attempts.
Starting pitcher Douma worked 3-2/3 innings. He yielded six runs (four earned) on six hits with seven strikeouts, three walks an a hit batter. Lawton Schiphoff got the final out of the fourth inning and took the mound again in the fifth. He walked a total of four batters and allowed two runs, one of which was earned. Daggett pitched hitless ball through the remainder of the fifth inning but walked three batters and allowed three runs (one earned). He also recorded a strikeout. HMS committed two errors.
