Harris-Lake Park answers Hawks to take one-run game

Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn took the lead against Harris-Lake Park with a late inning rally but couldn’t maintain the advantage. The Wolves scored twice in the bottom of the sixth to pull out a 7-6 victory over HMS June 25 at Lake Park.
In the bottom of the first inning, Gracie Knobloch caught an HLP batter looking to record the 500th strikeout of her varsity career. The senior has been racking up K’s since the eighth grade.
“The girls played a decent game the whole seven innings, we just came up short leaving a few too many on base,” noted Hawk head coach Stephanie Bronstad. “Gracie hit her 500 strikeouts which is a great accomplishment for her and all of her hard work. She pitched a good game keeping her pitch count low. As a coach I’d like to see the walks decrease per game making the other team earn their baserunners.”
Knobloch allowed five earned runs on seven hits. She finished with five strikeouts but also walked six. Three of those walked came around to score. HMS was guilty of three errors.
The Hawks had 13 hits in the game but stranded 12 runners, twice as many as the Wolves. Kamryn Ebel led the team with three hits. Mahkenzie Mattingly, Addy Sheeler, Lexi Schmillen and Knobloch each had two. Eliza Tewes and Cammy Wilson each supplied one hit.
HMS jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the game. Ebel singled and Knobloch drew a walk. Mattingly doubled to drive in Ebel and Sheeler followed with a two-run double.
Harris-Lake Park tied the game in the bottom of the first and then took the lead with a run in the second. The Wolves extended the lead to 5-3 in the fifth. The Hawks recorded their second three-run inning in the sixth. Schmillen and Ebel hit back-to-back singles. Tewes hit a ground rule double to score Schmillen and Knobloch singled home Tewes.
