Tigers capitalize on walks in mauling of HMS
Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn walked 16 Trinity Christian batters as the Hawks lost to the Tigers 15-1 in five innings July 2 at Hull. With the loss, the Hawks finish 0-10 in the War Eagle Conference.
Riley Wiersma, Mykle Meyers, Hunter Daggett and Lawton Schiphoff all took a turn on the mound for HMS. Schiphoff pitched 2-2/3 shutout innings of no-hit ball, walking three batters and striking out two. The other three pitchers allowed a total of 11 earned runs on two hits, 13 walks and two hit batters. Wiersma recorded the only strikeout among the three. The Hawks were guilty of two errors.
HMS had six hits in the game including a double and a single by Jack Mastbergen. Other Hawk batters with one single each were Grant Kunzman, Blake Meendering, Anthony Olvera and J.W. Van Der Merwe. Meendering drove in Mastbergen for the HMS run.
