Walks and errors are part of the mix as Hawks fall to Hinton
Hinton scored multiple runs in four of the five innings, including a 10-spot in the fourth, to hand Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn a 20-4 War Eagle Conference loss June 8 at Hartley. The visitors enjoyed a 12-hit night but were helped by the Hawks who issued 12 walks and were guilty of five errors.
HMS had six hits in the game. Jacob Cates batted 3-for-3, including an RBI single in the fourth. Jordan Ortega went 2-for-3. He singled and scored in the third and his fourth-inning base hit drove in a run. Jonny Ortiz was 1-for-2. He singled in a run in the second and walked and scored in the fourth.
Tanner Tesch drew a pair of walks and scored a run in the second. Tyson Tessum walked and scored in the fourth. Keith DeBoer drew a bases-loaded walk in the third, forcing in a run and giving him an RBI. Ethan Diehm’s sacrifice in the second led to Tesch scoring.
Nick Bronstad was the starting and losing pitcher. His 3-1/3 innings yielded 14 runs and eight hits. Eight of the runs were earned. Bronstad walked seven batters and struck out one. Trenton Vollink pitched the final 1-1/3 innings. He allowed six runs (two earned) on four hits and five walks.
