West Bend-Mallard shoots down Hawk girls
West Bend-Mallard made shots at a 51-percent clip in handing Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn a 65-59 loss January 12 at West Bend. The Wolverines, who made good on 24 of their 47 field goal tries, were led by Hailey Stalzer (27 points) and Kierstin Montag (22).
HMS made a third of its 57 shots. From three point range the Hawks were 5-of-15 and West Bend-Mallard 6-of-16. The two teams attempted a total of 45 free throws. HMS was 16-of 25 at the line while the Wolverines went 11-for-20.
Leading the Hawks in scoring was Abby Douma with 17 points. Gracie Knobloch added 14 points, Moriah Otto eight, Kylee Schiphoff seven, Elise Haack six, Emily Mutombo and Frankie Mohni three apiece and Lindsey Van Es one. Schiphoff and Knobloch each had two assists.
Each team finished with 28 rebounds. Contributing to that total on the HMS side were Mutombo and Otto with seven boards apiece, Haack with five, Douma with four, Schiphoff with three and Knobloch with two. Mutombo and Schiphoff each blocked a shot. Knobloch and Mutombo came away with four steals apiece to account for part of the Wolverines’ total of 23 turnovers. HMS turned the ball over 19 times.
