The Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn boys traveled to Armstrong April 27 to compete in the John Larson Relays hosted by North Union. Compete they did, totaling 94 team points to finish third behind Estherville Lincoln Central (146 points) and Bishop Garrigan (130).
The Hawks took first place in four events. Ethan Diehm captured the long jump with a leap of 19’ 11’, Adam Schierholz won the discus with a throw of 118’ 11” and Kooper Ebel topped the 200 meter field in a time of 23.91. The final event win came in the 4×100 relay where Jr Araiza, Diehm, Ebel and James Gellerman teamed up for a time of 45.19.
Jacob Cates placed second in the long jump and Ebel was a runner-up in the 400 meters. The unit of Araiza, Ebel, Gellerman and Bradley Zamudio produced a third place finish for the sprint medley relay. Placing fourth were the 4×200 relay of Araiza, Zamudio, Diehm and Gellerman and the 4×800 relay of Ryan Grotluschen, Aiden Espeland, Bryce Dodge and Damian Dodge.
