HMS boys join large field at Sioux City Relays
Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn was just one of many high school boys teams to compete at the Sioux City Relays on April 13. The relays are hosted by Morninside College at their Olsen Stadium.
Excelling for the Hawks were Adam Schierholz and Jacob Cates who finished sixth and eighth respectively in the open discus competition. Bryce Ortega placed 12th in the open shot put.
In Class C relay competitions a pair of Hawk teams placed seventh. Accomplishing that were the 4×400 unit of Blaine Finster, Nathaniel Ball, Damian Dodge and Ethan Wiersma and the 1600 meter relay foursome of Wiersma, Carter Dolphin, Ball and George Vargas.

Open Discus: Adam Schierholz, 6th, 141’ 4”; Cates, 8th, 136’ 9”.
Open 400 Meter Dash: Carter Dolphin, 25th, 57.29.
Open 3200 Meter Run: George Vargas, 19th, 11:31.58.
Class C 4×400 Meter Relay: (Blaine Finster, Nathaniel Ball, Damian Dodge, Ethan Wiersma) 7th, 4:24.68.
Class C 4×800 Meter Relay: (Finster, Ball, Dodge, Vargas) 16th, 9:39.15.
Class C 1600 Meter Medley Relay: (Wiersma, Dolphin, Ball, Vargas) 7th, 4:21.09.
