May 9 at Armstrong, hosted by North Union
A diminished field of competitors at the Wolverine Relays allowed the Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn girls to finish with their highest team point total of the season. The Hawks scored 116 points and placed second to host South O’Brien in the meet held May 2 at Paullina. George-Little Rock was third and Trinity Christian fourth. Alta-Aurelia, Sioux Central and West Bend-Mallard had planned to be part of the field but they were busy at their conference meet which was moved to May 2.
HMS sported three event winners. Alexis Grover captured the shot put, Lexi Croatt the 1500 meter run and Megan Otto the high jump. There was no discus competition due to wet grounds.
Coming in second were Croatt in the 800 along with two relays: the 4×200 of Payton Diehm, Otto, Madi Lauer and Kynlee Dolphin and the sprint medley with Diehm, Otto, Pam Mutombo and Jocelyn Abonce, who also took third in both the 400 and 800. Other third-place finishes were recorded by Diehm in the long jump, Hannah Tessum in the shot put, Mutombo in the 200, Clara Funk in the 1500, Jessica Diaz in the 100 meter hurdles and the 4×100 relay team of Diehm, Evelyn Steffen, Otto and Mutombo.
