One of the area’s biggest entertainment spots, the O.K. Recreation, received a whitewashing last week. Ed Knowlton was pictured, son of the owner, Don Knowlton, applying a few finishing touches of white sealer to the nearly completed job.
The Rev. Robert J. Cunningham, pastor of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Sanborn, has accepted the call extended to him by members of Calvary Lutheran Church, Watseka, IL to become their pastor.
A new attraction for Sanborn residents arrived last week when Martin Transport, Inc. moved their huge portable auto body flattener to assist in the transfer of junked autos at Vander Haag South Side Salvage.
Larry Dolphin won the Trophy Dash at Buena Vista Raceway in Alta Sunday evening….In only his second year at driving, Dolphin is currently holding onto the 6th place position in point standings at Buena Vista.
FIFTY YEARS AGO
Thursday, July 25, 1996
Construction has begun on the Cornerstone Orthodox Reformed Church building south of Prairie View. Cement was poured last week.
Onyx Lodge and Knights of Columbus are sponsoring an Ice Cream Social from 5-8 p.m. Sat., July 27 inside the Sanborn Community Center. All proceeds go toward the Community Center.
On May 17 the Sanborn Parks and Rec Department hosted a local Hershey Track Meet at HMS track in Hartley. The following participants were notified that they qualify for the State Hershey Track Meet in Ames July 13. Daniel Stofferan, Samantha Tewes, Katie Haack, Josh Frey, Tony Reitsma, Kent Wallinga, Allyson Bousema, Kelsey Bakker and Mandy Visser.
