Early Morning Storm Damages Sheldon Business Plaza
On the morning of September 17, the National Weather Service placed several counties in NW Iowa in a Severe Thunderstorm Warning. The wind speed caused some damages to trees throughout O’Brien County.
The business plaza located at 101 N Runger Ave in Sheldon received substantial roof damage.
Jared Johnson with the County EMA said “I contacted the NWS office in Sioux Falls to identify wind speed recordings from the area, and I was notified that the wind speed reading at the Sheldon Airport was 64 mph when the severe weather went through Sheldon. The wind event went through this area quickly. “
There were reports of downed tree limbs on several O’Brien County roads and north of HWY 18 on HWY 59 after the storm went through.
