Hawk boys get one win, nearly two in golf triangular

The Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn boys just missed grabbing two wins as they entertained South O’Brien and Sioux Central in a triangular April 29 at Sanborn Golf and Country Club. South O’Brien won the War Eagle Conference match-up by a single stroke – 183 to 184. The Hawks’ score was more than low enough to defeat the Rebels who posted a team score of 208.
“I was very happy with our golfers,” remarked Hawk coach Mark Japenga. “We have definitely improved and continue to improve as the season progresses. Hopefully, we can be playing our best golf as sectionals approach.”
Nick Bronstad and the Wolverines’ Kaedon Louscher tied for the low round of 43 in the WEC dual. Louscher won medalist honors following a two-hole playoff. Jack Mastbergen’s round of 46 tied him for the next lowest round with two golfers from South O’Brien. A card playoff awarded Mastbergen fourth place.
In the dual with the Rebels, Bronstad was second and Mastbergen third. Fourth place went to Wyatt Borden, who fired a round of 47. The Rebels provided the medalist with Nathan Kueny shooting a 41.
