MMCRU downs Hawk boys in low-scoring affair
One night after reaching a high-water mark for points this season, Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn descended to a season low. The Hawks suffered a 44-40 setback to MMCRU January 13 at Marcus, ending a five game unbeaten streak. The loss dropped HMS to 3-2 in the War Eagle Conference and 7-3 overall.
The Hawks were just 12-of-44 from the field for 27 percent. They were unable to connect on any of their 10 three-point tries. They attempted 32 free throws, but missed half of them. Things were little better on the MMCRU side. The Royals shot 31 percent with 18 makes in 58 tries. They were 4-of-18 from beyond the arc and 4-of-7 from the line.
Kooper Ebel scored 17 points, Lance Berends 13, Travis Kamradt six and Keevyn Jacobsma four. Kamradt had the lone assist. The 38 HMS rebounds included 13 from Berends and 10 from both Ebel and Jacobsma. Ebel came away with three steals and also blocked a shot. Turnovers were nearly even as the Hawks committed 18 and the Royals 16.
