Okoboji/HMS picks up two wins at triangular in Sheldon
Okoboji/HMS claimed a pair of Siouxland Conference dual wins – one in dramatic fashion – as Sheldon/South O’Brien hosted a wrestling triangular January 12 at Sheldon. A pin by the Pioneers’ Ryan Pyle in the closing seconds of the final match secured a 38-35 victory over the host Orabs. Less dramatic was a 66-12 Pioneer win over Sibley-Ocheyedan.
HMS wrestlers competing were Bryce Dodge, James Gellerman, Ethan Wiersma, William Barbiere and Camden Ball.
In the dual with Sheldon/South O’Brien, James Gellerman won a 6-0 decision over Jordan Jenness at 170 pounds. In the 152-pound match, Dodge lost by fall to Coy De Boer in 53 seconds. Jarrett Roos pinned Wiersma in 1:35 at 195 pounds, The 182-pound match saw Barbiere lose by fall to Kolt Roos in 2:26. Ball wrestled an extra match at 132 pounds and won by fall over Leo Guadarama in 1:11.
The HMS contingent enjoyed more success in the victory over the Generals. Dodge, Gellerman and Wiersma all won by fall.
Dodge pinned Gavin Hensch in 1:51. Wrestling at 182 pounds, Gellerman secured his pin over Alex Bosma in 1:17. It took just 28 seconds for Wiersma to dispatch Philip Van Westen.
