Hawk girls fall to South O’Brien but earn top two medals

With a full team for the first time this season, Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn hosted South O’Brien in a War Eagle Conference girls golf dual April 18 at Sanborn Golf and Country Club. The team scores were high on a cold and blustery day and South O’Brien edged the Hawks 247-252.
HMS did produce the top two medal winners. Gracie Knobloch took first with a round of 52. Kinsey Schirmer fired a 54 to finish as the runner-up. Freshman Ava Dolphin shot her low round of the year with a 64. Seeing their first action of the season were two other freshmen. Kamryn Visser carded an 82 and Kinley Sampson came in at 85.
“I was super proud of the ladies battling the wind and cold at the South O’Brien meet,” remarked Hawk coach Cheryl Kroese. “Gracie and Kinsey were able to come out as 1st and 2nd place medalists! I appreciate how these two upperclassmen come out each night and compete. They have high expectations for themselves and their determination pays off. Our freshmen were able to compete at the varsity level for the first time. This was a great learning experience for them. They have worked very hard since the season started. I look forward to them continuing to improve their game!
