Following a week absent from competition due to a pair of meet cancellations, the Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn boys were back on the track (and at the adjacent field events) for the Okoboji Relays conducted April 22 at Milford. HMS was sixth in the team standings, scoring 53 points. Spirit Lake amassed 196 points to take first place over Okoboji and its 170 points.
The Hawks made their mark in the throwing events. Jacob Cates battled Adam Schierholz for the discus crown with the former coming out on top by three feet. In the shot put Bryce Ortega was third and Cates fourth.
Placing fifth was the distance medley relay populated by Caleb Grotluschen, Ethan Wiersma, Nathaniel Ball and Bryce Dodge. Sixth place individually went to Wiersma in the 110 meter hurdles and to George Vargas in the 1600 meter run. Relays finishing sixth were the 4×400 of Graham Lux, Carter Dolphin, Ball and Ryan Grotluschen and the 4×800 of Ball, Dolphin, Blaine Finster and Ryan Grotluschen.
