Adam Schierholz will be representing Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn as the State Track and Field Meet gets underway this week. The Hawk senior was the winner of the discus event at the Class 1A State Qualifying Meet hosted by North Union and held May 9 at Armstrong.
Schierholz set a personal record of 158’ 5” in the discus. “We are excited for Adam as he will be competing in Des Moines on May 17th at 4:30 p.m.,” said HMS boys track coach Jay Eilers.
The personal records did not stop with Schierholz. They also included Graham Lux in the 100 (12.65) and the 200 (25.47), Caleb Grotluschen in the 100 (12.27) and Easton Teal in the 1600 (5:28.06). “I thought our kids did a great job of competing at their full potential,” said Eilers. “We pushed our kids hard to be at their best and we were able to set some new PR’s in a tough qualifying meet.”
Eilers added, “Our other athletes and relays were running within seconds of their PR on the year which shows their dedication to getting better and reaching their potential. George Vargas finished a great career finishing third in the two mile and Jacob Cates finished fourth in discus and seventh in shot put. Could not have been more proud of our athletes on the year. It has been an absolute blessing to coach these kids, with great coaches pushing them.”
With all the quality at this meet on the track and in the field events, HMS placed ninth in the team standings with 30 points. MMCRU captured the team title with a 133 total.
