The Okoboji/HMS girls wrestling team finished sixth in the 20-team field at the Hinton/SBL Girls Wrestling Tournament held January 25 at Long Lines Family Rec Center in Sioux City. The Pioneers scored 122 team points. Hinton was the team champ with a 235 total.
Mahkenzie Mattingly was the sole wrestler from HMS in the competition. The 155-pounder received a bye into the quarterfinals where she lost by fall to Hinton’s Ava Lake in 52 seconds. Moving to the consolations she got a bye into round three and was pinned by Cyah Mick of Sioux City East in 3:41. Mattingly wrestled for seventh place which she gained when her opponent, Hinton’s Chloe Craig was disqualified.
