Defense leads the way as HMS boys defeat Tigers

Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn got after Trinity Christian from the get-go, limiting the Tigers to four points in each of the first two quarters on the way to a 52-36 War Eagle Conference victory January 31 at Hartley. With the win HMS improved to 4-6 in the conference and 6-12 on the season.
The Hawks made 12 steals and moved the ball effectively on offense with assists leading to 13 of their 18 baskets. Caden Douma notched four assists, and Issac Schierholz and Jayden Leth three each. Schierholz stole the ball from the Tigers six times. HMS was guilty of only seven turnovers.
The 18 field goals represented a third of the Hawks’ 54 shot attempts. HMS was 8-of-13 at the free throw line. Caden Douma finished with 22 points, Schierholz 11, Jackson Vogt nine, Kolby Douma six, and Alex Billings and Leth two each. Vogt and Schierholz each pulled down eight rebounds and Caden Douma blocked two shots.
