Hawks bowl their way to wins over Sioux Central

Both the Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn girls and boys were winners as the Hawks hosted Sioux Central January 31 at Locomotion Lanes.
The HMS girls topped the Rebels 2314 to 1317. “The girls hit their stride tonight, with performances exceeding their averages,” said Hawk bowling coach Julia Meyer. “As the season draws to a close, their ongoing improvement is helping grow confidence. It was a solid victory over Sioux Central.”
Mason VerHelst led the charge with games of 187 and 161 and a top two-game total of 348. Jordan Lux threw a 179 and Kaidence Shaffer a 157.
The girls Baker games were 167, 180, 148, 139 and 140.
The total score for the boys was 2954 for HMS and 1511 for Sioux Central. “Our boys were impressive with a win over Sioux Central also,” said Meyer. “With state qualifying around the corner, they are working on keeping up the momentum through to the end of the meet and keeping their open frames to a minimum. They are awesome to watch knowing they are only high school students.”
Jack Mastbergen rolled games of 246 and 225 for a high total of 471. Eli Mastbergen bowled a 232 and a 211 and Damian Dodge threw a 216 and a 191.
The Baker games for the boys were 202, 205, 214, 140 and 194.
“The JV boys scores are improving throughout the season also,” noted Meyer. “These boys have great enthusiasm in their games.”
