Hawk girls overpower Boyden-Hull
Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn kept Boyden-Hull winless with a 55-30 victory over the Comets January 30 at Hull. The Hawks outscored Boyden-Hull 18-5 in the first quarter to set the tone for the non-conference game and drop the Comets to 0-19 on the season.
The balanced HMS scoring included 13 points from Lindsey Van Es, 12 from both Kylee Schiphoff and Abby Douma and 10 from Moriah Otto. Gracie Knobloch and Frankie Mohni each added three points and Cammy Wilson two. Knobloch’s passing resulted in six assists. The Hawks shot 35 percent (20-of-57) with six three-point baskets. They sank nine of their 12 free throw attempts. HMS turned the ball over 23 times.
The Hawks collected a whopping 56 rebounds. Douma and Van Es each grabbed eight with Otto pulling down seven, Knobloch and Addy Sheeler six each and Schiphoff five.
Coming away with two steals each were Schiphoff, Van Es and Eliza Tewes. The nine blocked shots included five by Douma and two by Laura Vargas.
