Strong second half lifts Hawk girls past MMCRU
Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn rallied from a poor first half to get a War Eagle Conference win over MMCRU January 28 at Marcus. HMS was down by 15 at halftime but outscored the Royals 49-18 in the second half.
Kylee Schiphoff led the Hawks in scoring with 28 points. Frankie Mohni added 10 points, Abby Douma six, Moriah Otto five, Lindsey Van Es three and Gracie Knobloch and Addy Sheeler two each. Gracie Knobloch supplied three assists with Schiphoff and Otto each contributing two.
HMS shot 30 percent (17-of-57) while the Royals were at 34 percent (16-of-47). MMCRU made nine treys and the Hawks seven. HMS won despite converting just 15 of its 31 free throw attempts. The Royals were 9-of-17 at the line.
Rebounding leaders were Otto with nine, Schiphoff with seven and Douma with six. The Hawks blocked 10 shots with Douma accounting for six, Schiphoff three and Otto one. The 10 steals included four from Knobloch, three from Van Es, two from Mohni and one from Douma. MMCRU committed 23 turnovers and the Hawks had 17.
