The Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn boys track and field team journeyed to Ida Grove April 22 to face some different competition at the OABCIG Boys Invite. The Hawks scored 37 points to finish sixth in the meet won by Ridge View and their 172 points.
Placing third for HMS were Blaine Finster in the 110 meter hurdles and the 4×400 relay of James Carlin, Graham Lux, Nathan Stofferan and Ryan Grotluschen.
There were a number of individuals placing fifth, including Karter Zimmer in the long jump, Alex Billings in the shot put, Simone Dellavedova in the 800 meters, Peyton Morton in the 110 hurdles and Finster in the 400 hurdles.
Fifth-place relays were the 4×100 of Carlin, Lux, Stofferan and Jose Perez-Perez) 5th, the 4×200 of Carlin, Isaac Schierholz, Mattis Oltmann and Perez-Perez, the sprint medley of Caden Douma, Jackson Vogt, Schierholz and Grotluschen and the distance medley Carlin, Stofferan, Lux and Grotluschen.
