Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn’s track and field girls gave it their best shot but were unable to advance anyone beyond the State Qualifying Meet which was hosted by North Union and held at Armstrong on May 15. In Class 1A, the top place winner in each event, plus the next fourteen best performances statewide from qualifying meet place winners advance to the State meet.
“I thought we put on one of our best track meets all year!,” commented HMS coach Jeremiah Delzer. “We continued to put our best efforts out and post our best times. We built a great foundation to start on for next year with the progress we made!”
Keely Ebel finished third in the 200 meter dash and teamed with Payton Diehm, Kamryn Ebel and Pamela Mutombo to take third in the 4×100 relay. The same group finished sixth in the 4×200 relay. Placing seventh were Keely Ebel in the 100 meters and the shuttle hurdle relay quartet of Abby Rons, Thalia Rodriguez, Jamie Diaz and Jenna Hengeveld.
The Hawks scored 22 team points. Ft. Dodge St. Edmond slipped past Newell-Fonda by one point to take the team title at the meet.
